Sustainability exposé from the West coast to the East

by Diana on March 29, 2010

Can you think of a more energizing way to see spring break across the nation – yes right across from Palo Alto to Washington D.C.? Well, that is exactly what brother-and-sister team Oliver and Catherine Bock will get to do and for a very commendable green cause too. Their rides will include visits to many important green energy projects along the way.

The ride is sponsored by a bicycle shop in San Anselmo, CA , whose director Spokey Godfrey is traveling part of the way with them. They will use the opportunity to show off the gear that will help power the journey i.e. recumbent electric bicycles with lithium-based batteries, designed by their brother, Michael Bock. All  of them are “healthy, sustainable civilization” advocates.

They leave on April 22 – Earth Day – and will stop at “solar farms or wind farms, or community gardens, any kind of community projects” to bring awareness to them. Big hills will not be too difficult as the bikes offer combined pedal and battery power, and great fun too.

It will be exciting to learn what their planned route  – from their Greenriders sustainability campaign blog – will unveil to us.
